I recently published a post on the USV blog about AI and art. I’ve been reflecting on how intimately connected technology and art are. The art we make is mediated by the tools at our disposal, and the visions technologists pursue are often downstream of the stories artists tell.
Since I published the blog, Open AI announced Sora, their text-to-video model. Though the model isn’t public yet, Sam Altman solicited requests for prompts and shared the outputs, which were pretty incredible. This space is so fertile that in the two weeks since I published a blog post expressing how impressed I’ve been with AI art products, we saw a new paradigm-shifting technology.
Given all this activity, I thought it would be helpful to organize an AI and art demo night. We’ll have presentations from groups pushing the boundaries of art with AI in different ways and in different media, and we’ve invited actors, painters, digital artists, and other creatives to participate. Part of what I love about New York City is the cultural and intellectual diversity, and I can’t wait to bring together New York’s tech and artistic communities for this demo night.
If you’re an artist at all curious about what’s going on with AI, or if you’re a technologist interested in art, please reach out: we’d absolutely love to have you participate in the event.
